Maine was once part of Massachusetts. The Massachusetts Bay Colony was annexed to southwestern Maine in 1652 and ruled the area until it became a state.

Maine became the 23rd state in 1820 as part of the Missouri Compromise, Missouri could join the coalition as a slave state, and Maine could join as a free state.

The origin of the main name is unknown. There are various theories. The commonly accepted term is derived from the nautical term “mainland” or “mainland” (also called “mine” or “mainland”) that distinguishes the state’s major land and its islands. This is the only state name that consists of one syllable.

Maine is 91600 sq km and is the largest of the six New England states. Eastport, Maine is the easternmost city in the mainland United States.

Climate :

Maine has three distinct climatic zones: central, southern interior, and northern. All are classified as a temperate continental climate, but there are slight regional differences. Areas near the south and coast are affected by air masses from the south and west. To the north of the land that separates the St. John and Penobscot basins, the air masses that flow through the St. Lawrence basin tend to predominate. Average annual temperatures range from 3-4 ° C (37-39 ° F) in the north and 6-7 ° C (43-45 ° F) in the interior and central regions of the south. The average temperature across the state is approximately 17 ° C (62 ° F) in summer and -7 ° C (20 ° F) in winter. Sunny days range from about 100 days a year in the south to just 70 days a year in the north, with an average annual rainfall of 36 to 48 inches (910 to 1,220 mm). Snowfall averages over 2,500 mm (100 inches) in the north, high altitudes, and less than 2,000 mm (80 inches) near the Atlantic Ocean.

Novelist Stephen King is also from Maine, and most of his horror titles are set in Maine. He wrote his first novel, Carrie, while working in the state as a high school English teacher.

The official state insect of Maine is the bee. Burt’s Bees, a personal care company, started in 1984 in Maine as a candle maker using Burt Shavitz’s local bee wax.

The flora and fauna represent a combination of subarctic and Appalachia seeds. Among the coniferous trees, the forest contains heavy stands of pine, spruce and fir. Sugar maple, yellow birch, aspen and paper birch dominate hardwood forests. Among the fauna are deer, elks, lynxes, foxes, lynxes, rabbits, raccoons, coyotes, pork pine, fishermen, and lynxes. Songbirds, seabirds, seabirds, and many types of wildlife can be found throughout the state. It is rich in marine life such as sea urchins, whales, porpoises, red shrimp, shrimp, mussels, haddock, cod, mackerel, and Atlantic salmon, and is also rich in freshwater fish.
